The Wild Film Medical Services ‘Little Black Book’ is an approved roster of experienced and highly qualified expedition medics; all experts in their field. Wild Film Medical Services provides matchmaking solutions between expedition medics and the wildlife and expedition film industry, leveraging our vast network of film and television clients to connect healthcare professionals with producers looking for medical coverage for their expeditions.
As a middleman, we make connections outside of your normal network. To provide this service we charge a small finders fee for any successful contract. We do this as we are uniquely positioned, with extensive experience within the wildlife and expedition film industry, providing us an intimate understanding of the production process and access to a vast and often insular network of producers, production companies, and film and television professionals.
All medics wishing to join the WFMS ‘Little Black Book’ are rigorously vetted to ensure they meed the highest standards of professionalism, field craft, medical expertise and expedition capability. Medics wishing to join the roster are expected to be performing at the top of their field, with a professional understanding of the industry, and the capability to operate both independently and as a valuable member of a team in any given environment. This ensures the reputations of WFMS and the individuals working under the organisation’s umbrella are protected.
For shoots requiring an individual medic, they work independently as a freelancer and are anticipated to work under their own registration, insurances and providing their own equipment where necessary. WFMS can, however, help liaise with productions regarding insurance, fees, and equipment where it is desirable to the engaged party.
For more complex projects, WFMS will act as the management agent – negotiating team, top-cover, contracts, fees and the provision of equipment. Registered healthcare professionals are still expected to provide their own insurance, however there are circumstances where reimbursement for this may be incorporated into an enhanced fee; such as work in hostile environments or conflict zone, and productions considered particularly high risk.
All those approved to join the roster following the vetting process will be expected to sign a code of standards and conduct document, outlining the WFMS expectations and ensuring we continue to maintain a gold-standard of medical service to the wildlife and expedition film industry.
